New £345,000 grant scheme will improve Berinsfield residents’ quality of life
A special grant scheme has been launched to help community groups support and improve the quality of life for residents living in Berinsfield Garden Village.
South Oxfordshire District Council has put £345,000 aside to help bring direct benefits to the garden village community as part of their future plans to bring new investment into the local area.
The scheme is now open for eligible groups to apply for support between £5,000 to £60,000 to replace equipment, introduce new environmental measures to existing buildings to tackle the climate emergency, or to improve facilities for villagers.
For successful applicants, amounts of between £500 to £25,000 could be awarded each year for a period of up to five years for community events, projects that promote wellbeing as well as funding for staff and volunteers’ training to improve services and the support they provide for local residents.
Cllr Robin Bennett, local councillor for Berinsfield and Cabinet member for Development and Regeneration at the district council, said: “I’m really pleased that this unique grant has been launched to specifically help organisations working in Berinsfield to carry on and improve vital community services to our residents. This fund is part of our longer-term plans to work closely with local organisations as we help bring new development and investment into the village.”
Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers, Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing at the district council said, “We’re looking forward to receiving the applications and are encouraging local groups to apply for funds to help improve the quality of life for our Berinsfield residents with particular focus on wellbeing and the protection of the natural environment.”
Charities, organisations and community groups can find the full details and apply to help support residents in Berinsfield via www.southoxon.gov.uk/grants up until midday on 1 June.
Once the deadline has passed, the council will review the applications and let all applicants know their decision this summer.
